The RAC 3.5-150-460-D0D-W1-220 is a spindle drive controller manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the RAC Spindle Drive Controllers series. As an AC main spindle drive controller, it converts incoming three-phase power into regulated motor output for machine-tool spindles and other high-speed axes. Closed-loop control helps manage torque, acceleration, and braking so the drive can support repeatable machining cycles and consistent surface quality during automated operation.
Thermal management is handled by an internal blower with a built-in fan, so the unit does not depend on external cabinet airflow for normal cooling. The power section accepts 3 x AC 400 V at 50 Hz with ±15%, or 3 x AC 460 V, which allows use on common industrial supply systems. Under full load, the current draw can reach 150 A, so upstream protection and conductor selection must match the demand of the spindle system. Control electronics are powered separately through 230 V AC at 50/60 Hz, which keeps the control supply independent from spindle power transients. Command and feedback wiring terminates on X4 with 25 poles, keeping the main signal connections grouped in one interface.
Position commands are provided through a digital position setpoint with 16-bit parallel input, giving the controller a direct reference for commanded motion. A separate speed command uses a digital speed command with 16-bit parallel input, so both references are handled in a consistent format. The unit is supplied without an additional bleeder resistor, so regenerative energy handling remains dependent on the standard braking arrangement in the system enclosure. Motion feedback expansion is omitted because the design is supplied without an additional encoder input. The controller is built as Version 5, indicating the product revision used for this model.
