The RAC 3.5-150-460-A00-Z1-220 is an AC main spindle drive controller produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the RAC Spindle Drive Controllers series. It is intended to govern high-power spindle motors in machining centers and other automated equipment, converting motion commands from the CNC or PLC into regulated three-phase output. This allows the spindle to maintain commanded speed and torque during cutting, drilling, and grinding operations even when the mechanical load changes during a machining cycle. The controller is suited to applications that need consistent spindle response and stable motor regulation during demanding production tasks.

The power stage handles a continuous current of 150 A and is supplied through 3 x AC 400 V, 50 Hz, ±15%, or 3 x AC 460 V, giving the unit compatibility with common industrial mains. Thermal management is provided by a built-in blower that moves cabinet air across the heat sink to control semiconductor temperature during sustained load cycles. Velocity references arrive as an analog ±10 V signal, which supports direct proportional speed commands from control systems that use analog interfaces. Field wiring enters the logic section through the X4 9-pole terminal, which groups enable lines, analog inputs, and monitoring outputs on a single connector.

An integrated braking resistor is provided as an additional bleeder resistor, so regenerated energy from spindle deceleration can be dissipated without an external module. The controller operates without an additional encoder input, which suits applications that rely only on the primary motor encoder for feedback. Control electronics use a separate AC 230 V / 50-60 Hz auxiliary supply so command processing remains active independently of the main power stage, and the controller is released as Version 5. Separate control power also allows the logic section to remain available for status handling and command processing when the drive output stage is not actively driving the motor.
