The RAC 3.5-100-460-D0I-W1-220 is an AC main spindle drive controller engineered by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the RAC Spindle Drive Controllers series. As a spindle-oriented unit, it regulates motor torque and speed in machining centers and other automation equipment that require precise rotational control during cutting, drilling, or grinding operations, where stable spindle speed supports repeatable process results. The controller belongs to series 3 and is supplied in version 5, placing it within a mid-generation design of the product line.

This controller draws power from an input supply of 3 x AC 400 V, 50 Hz, ±15% or 3 x AC 460 V, enabling installation on either European or North American three-phase networks. That dual-voltage input gives the drive flexibility in machine platforms used across regions with different utility standards. Once energized, it can supply up to 100 A of continuous output current to the spindle motor, which supports stable operation under sustained load. Thermal management is handled by an internal blower, maintaining airflow across heat-producing components without external cooling ductwork. Command data reach the drive through a digital 16-bit parallel speed reference, providing high-resolution velocity requests from the CNC control. Field wiring terminates on connector X4 with 25 poles, which consolidates control and feedback leads into a single plug for a cleaner cabinet layout.

The power section does not include an additional bleeder resistor, so regenerative energy must be handled by the system bus or external hardware when required. The unit also does not include an additional encoder input, but an integrated incremental encoder output is available for downstream monitoring devices. That output can pass motion-related signals to external monitoring equipment without a separate feedback expansion stage. Control electronics draw their auxiliary supply from AC 230 V / 50-60 Hz, allowing separation between logic power and the higher spindle bus voltage. Separate auxiliary power keeps the control section isolated from the main spindle power stage.
