Internal Product Review
The RAC 3.5-100-460-AY0-W1-220 is an AC main spindle drive controller with a 100 A rated current. Built-in fan cooling and an additional encoder/synchronous input give this unit strong thermal control and added flexibility for complex spindle systems. Operation on 3 x AC 460 V with an analog ±10 V speed command makes this controller a very capable choice for precise spindle control.

Product Description:
The RAC 3.5-100-460-AY0-W1-220 is an AC main spindle drive controller manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the RAC Spindle Drive Controllers series. It is intended to regulate the electrical supply and closed-loop operation of a machine-tool spindle, allowing precise speed and torque adjustment during cutting, drilling, and grinding processes in automated production equipment. This type of controller is typically used where stable spindle response is required across changing loads and programmed speed ranges.
A built-in cooling circuit that relies on an internal blower moves air across the power electronics to maintain thermal limits, and the housing is supplied without an additional bleeder, so regenerative energy must be handled by the connected drive system. Command and diagnostic signals enter through the X4 9-pole terminal, while the control section draws its logic power from an AC 230 V / 50–60 Hz single-phase source. Line power for the inverter stage can be supplied from either 3 x AC 400 V ±15% or 3 x AC 460 V, which supports common industrial power systems. Under continuous duty, the current path supports a maximum of 100 A, allowing the controller to operate with spindle motors that require substantial sustained current.
Speed reference arrives as a ±10 V signal, and the drive interprets this analog (+/- 10 V) command together with feedback from the integrated incremental encoder to close the velocity loop. An additional encoder input and a synchronous input are also available when the application requires secondary position sensing, which supports lead spindle feedback in coordinated machine functions. The unit is identified as Series 3 and Version 5. These identifiers distinguish the product generation and revision used for this controller type.
