Product Description:
The RAC 3.5-100-460-APD-W1-220 is an AC main spindle drive controller in the RAC Spindle Drive Controllers series. The unit supplies regulated three-phase power to high-speed machine-tool spindles and links the numerical control to the motor for acceleration, braking, and positioning tasks in automated machining centers. It is series index 3 and hardware version 5 within the product line. It is intended for use where the spindle must accelerate quickly, hold commanded speed, and decelerate in a controlled way between toolpath changes. That helps the machine maintain stable spindle performance during drilling, milling, and contouring routines.
The power section accepts a three-phase supply of 3 x AC 400 V at 50 Hz or 3 x AC 460 V, accommodating line fluctuations of ±15% without loss of regulation. Under full load, the inverter can deliver 100 A, which supports demanding spindle acceleration and sustained cutting duty. The control electronics are isolated from the main bus and are fed separately with AC 230 V at 50-60 Hz. This separate control supply keeps the logic active for status monitoring and orderly shutdown behavior when the main input is removed. It also allows the command section to remain stable while the power section is handled independently.
Thermal management relies on an internal blower that moves air across the heat sink and supports compact panel layouts. Command data reach the control board through an analog velocity channel rated at analog (+/- 10 V), while coarse positioning commands are applied through the bus labeled digital position setpoint (16-bit parallel). This interface mix supports both continuous speed commands and position-related control from the machine. An extra encoder socket on terminal X4 accepts spindle feedback for speed and position monitoring. The circuit is supplied without an additional bleeder, so braking energy must be handled by the mechanical load or an external resistor.
