Product Description:
The RAC 3.5-100-460-A0D-Z1-220 is an AC main spindle drive controller built by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the RAC Spindle Drive Controllers series. It provides closed-loop power and speed regulation for a machining center or turning spindle so cutting speed remains stable as the load changes. The unit connects to three-phase mains and contains control electronics that coordinate spindle motion and braking functions within automated equipment. This operating role makes it suitable for machine tools that need steady spindle response during acceleration, deceleration, and varying cutting conditions.
Continuous output current is 100 A, allowing the spindle to hold torque during demanding cuts and prolonged running periods. The inverter accepts 3 × AC 400 V, 50 Hz, ±15% or 3 × AC 460 V mains, while the control section uses a separate AC 230 V / 50–60 Hz supply. A built-in blower removes heat from the chassis, which supports thermal stability without external ducting. Position commands are received through a digital position setpoint via a 16-bit parallel interface that links directly to the CNC, so the drive can follow commanded spindle behavior with a direct control signal path.
The drive uses an analog (±10 V) speed command input for external speed control when that reference method is required by the machine. Field wiring terminates on the X4 9-pole terminal, and braking energy is handled by an integrated additional bleeder so a separate external dump unit is not required. The unit has no additional encoder input, so feedback is taken from the primary spindle sensor only. It is also identified as Series 3 with Version 5, which distinguishes this control version within the product line. This arrangement keeps the feedback path limited to the main spindle sensor while the drive manages speed and braking functions internally.
