Product Description:
The RAC 3.5-100-460-A00-Z1-220 is an AC main spindle drive controller produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the RAC Spindle Drive Controllers series. Designed for machine tool applications, the unit converts three-phase mains power into regulated spindle output while carrying out speed and torque commands from a CNC or PLC. By matching motor response to programmed setpoints, it supports precise cutting, drilling, and grinding operations on automated production lines.
Thermal control is handled by a built-in blower, which circulates air across the power electronics so the cabinet does not require auxiliary ducting. The control circuits use a separate AC 230 V at 50/60 Hz connection, which keeps low-level logic isolated from the high-energy drive stage. The power section accepts a 3 x AC 400 V mains supply at 50 Hz with a ±15% tolerance, enabling direct connection to common European plant services. Under nominal conditions, the converter can deliver 100 A of continuous output current, allowing it to drive large spindle motors that need high acceleration and steady cutting torque.
Command reference is provided as an analog ±10 V signal, so a CNC controller can adjust spindle speed through straightforward voltage scaling. Field wiring is concentrated on the 9-pole X4 connector, which groups the enable, fault, and reference lines in one location. Regenerative energy created during deceleration is routed through an additional bleeder, preventing DC bus overvoltage without external hardware. Feedback expansion is not fitted, and the unit comes without an additional encoder input, so any secondary position loop must be closed in the CNC rather than inside the drive. The ability to run directly from AC 460 V mains broadens compatibility with North American installations, while Version 5 hardware keeps the feature set consistent across Series 3 controllers.
