By combining power electronics with closed-loop speed control, the unit serves as the interface between a CNC system and the spindle motor in industrial automation equipment. In operation, the controller connects to 50 Hz mains at 3 × AC 400 V or 3 × AC 460 V, with a voltage tolerance of ±15%, letting it run on common industrial power supplies. Its power stage delivers a continuous 200 A, allowing rapid acceleration of large-diameter spindles without thermal overload. Cooling is provided by an internal blower that directs cabinet air across the heat sink, so no external ducting is required. Control wiring lands on connector X4, 25 poles, and one multi-pin plug carries reference, enable, and diagnostic lines. The drive reads a digital 16-bit parallel speed word, giving the CNC cycle-time-synchronized velocity commands without requiring an analog speed reference.
An additional encoder input for spindle feedback lets the CNC verify spindle position in real time by using data from the high-resolution INDRAMAT encoder mounted on the motor. Axis commands arrive as a digital position setpoint (16-bit parallel), which matches the format of the speed word for consistent data handling. The power section is supplied without an additional bleeder. Using separate command and feedback channels allows the CNC to compare commanded motion with actual spindle behavior during operation.
