The RAC 2.3-200-460-D00-W1 spindle drive controller is manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and belongs to the RAC Spindle Drive Controllers series. Classified as an AC main spindle drive controller, it acts as the interface between the facility power bus and a high-speed machine-tool spindle, converting commanded setpoints into precise current and voltage for the motor field. Its role in industrial automation is to keep cutting speed constant during load changes and to synchronize spindle motion with the position loops handled by the motion control system.
Its power stage is designed for a supply of 3 x AC 400 V at 50 Hz with a tolerance of ±15%, or 3 x AC 460 V, allowing direct connection to standard European or North American mains without an isolation transformer. Under those conditions, the drive can deliver a continuous output of 200 A, enough to start and accelerate large-diameter spindles without external starters. Field wiring for logic and feedback is concentrated on the X4 connector with 25 poles, so diagnostics, enable lines, and temperature sensors reach the control cabinet through a single harness. Internal heat is removed by a built-in fan, eliminating the need for ducted cabinet air. Speed reference data enters the controller as 16-bit parallel digital words, which removes analog drift and gives the CNC 65,536 discrete velocity points for contouring.
The controller is Version 3 in Series 2, matching later RAC accessories. It is supplied without an additional bleeder, so regenerated energy is handled by the standard chopper resistor. It is also provided without an additional encoder input, so spindle position feedback is expected on the primary incremental channel in the type code. This arrangement keeps the electrical interface straightforward for applications that do not require extra feedback connections.
