Product Description:
The RAC 2.3-150-460-D00-W1 is a drive module built by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the RAC Spindle Drive Controllers series. In automated machining centers, it links the incoming mains supply to a servo inverter so the spindle motor receives controlled energy during start-up, acceleration, and steady operation. This supports repeatable speed regulation for drilling, milling, and grinding processes, while operating data can be returned to the higher-level CNC. That control behavior helps maintain cutting consistency when spindle load changes during tool entry, material removal, and exit from the workpiece.
The controller operates from a supply of 3 × AC 400 V, 50 Hz ±15 % or 3 × AC 460 V, allowing the same hardware type to be used in both European and North American installations. A continuous output of 150 A supports large synchronous or induction spindle motors that demand high current during acceleration. Heat from the power semiconductors is removed by an internal blower, so cabinet ventilation only has to clear the exhaust air. Speed references are received through a digital 16-bit parallel word, which reduces conversion delay between the CNC and the drive. This arrangement supports quick response to commanded speed changes and helps keep spindle operation stable during heavier cuts. The unit is supplied without an additional bleeder, so regenerative energy must be handled by an external resistor or returned to the DC link.
As an AC main spindle drive controller, the unit serves as the electrical interface between the CNC command structure and the spindle power section. Command and feedback lines terminate on the X4, 25-pole plug, which keeps the connection point clear and easy to route inside the cabinet. The product is series 2 and version 3. Position feedback can still be processed through the primary resolver channel, but it ships without an additional encoder input, so any secondary scale reader must be connected directly to the CNC. This leaves auxiliary measurement hardware outside the drive when the machine uses a separate scale or another secondary feedback device.
