Product Description:
The RAC 2.3-150-460-API-W1 is an AC main spindle drive controller manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the RAC Spindle Drive Controllers series. In machining centers or similar automation cells, it governs spindle torque and speed so that cutting, drilling, or grinding operations follow programmed profiles. It fits directly into 400 V class control cabinets and interfaces with analog command sources from CNC systems. This arrangement suits equipment that uses conventional spindle command architecture but still requires closed-loop control for stable machining speed.
Electrical integration is centered on a rated connection of 3 x AC 400 V, 50 Hz, +/-15% or 3 x AC 460 V, allowing the unit to operate on both European and North American supply networks without a transformer. Under continuous load, the power section can deliver 150 A to the spindle, a current level suited to high-power cutting heads and sustained spindle demand. Heat generated by the power electronics is expelled by an internal blower, so cabinet ventilation only needs to remove warm exhaust air rather than cool the drive directly. Speed references arrive as a ±10 V analog signal, keeping the controller compatible with legacy and newer CNC command cards. These low-level commands are routed through the X4 9-pole terminal, and the drive also provides an additional encoder input for external spindle feedback.
The unit is identified as version 3. Internally, it uses a high-resolution INDRAMAT encoder to provide very fine speed feedback, and an incremental encoder output sends replicated position data to external PLC scopes or phase-synchronous axes. This feedback arrangement supports applications where the spindle must be monitored by more than one control function at the same time. Because the power section does not include a bleeder resistor, braking energy must be returned to the mains or handled by a separate resistor module.
