Internal Product Review
The RAC 2.2-200-460-API-W1/S001 is an AC main spindle drive controller with a 200 A rating, well suited for high-demand spindle applications. Performance remains precise under 3 x AC 400/460 V input, and the +/-10 V analog speed command supports smooth machine response. Built-in fan cooling and an additional spindle feedback encoder input make the controller a strong choice for demanding machine tool service.

Product Description:
The RAC 2.2-200-460-API-W1/S001 is an AC main spindle drive controller produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and assigned to the RAC Spindle Drive Controllers series. The unit regulates three-phase spindle motors in machining centers, lathes, and grinding machines by converting incoming mains power into controlled output for spindle speed and torque. By integrating speed setpoint handling, regenerative management, and feedback interfaces, it serves as the central power stage between the CNC control and the mechanical spindle. This arrangement allows the drive to respond quickly to commanded changes in spindle load and speed during cutting cycles.
The drive has a continuous output of 200 A, which indicates the motor current it can supply during continuous operation without derating. It accepts a supply of 3 x AC 400 V, 50 Hz, ±15%, or 3 x AC 460 V, covering common European and North American plant voltages. Speed reference enters through an isolated analog (±10 V) input, allowing proportional velocity control from the CNC. Thermal stability is supported by an internal blower with a built-in fan that moves cabinet air across the heat sink. Field wiring connects through X4 with 9 poles for enable lines, fault outputs, and ready contacts.
Position accuracy is improved by an additional spindle encoder input that accepts SinCos or TTL signals and closes the velocity loop directly at the drive. For downstream devices, an incremental encoder output repeats the measured shaft angle so external axes or the CNC can remain synchronized. The controller reads signals from a high-resolution INDRAMAT encoder, permitting fine speed increments even at low revolutions. Braking energy is dissipated internally, and the unit is supplied without an additional bleeder resistor, so external resistor banks are not required for standard use. The controller is series 2 and version 2.
