Product Description:
The RAC 2.2-200-380-API-W1 drive controller is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the RAC Spindle Drive Controllers series. Classified as an AC main spindle drive controller, it regulates the torque and speed of high-power spindle motors used in machining centers and similar automated equipment. By converting three-phase mains power into controlled output and processing encoder feedback, the unit supports precise spindle regulation during cutting and grinding operations. This operating role makes it suitable for spindle systems that must maintain stable speed under changing mechanical load.
The controller accepts 3 x AC 400 V, 50-60 Hz, so it can be connected to standard industrial mains in many facilities. Its continuous output capability reaches 200 A, which allows it to operate large asynchronous or synchronous spindle motors under sustained load. Thermal limits are managed by a built-in blower, reducing the need to direct cabinet airflow through the heat sink. Spindle speed is commanded through an analog (±10 V) reference, which keeps it compatible with many legacy CNC interfaces. This combination supports installations that use conventional voltage-based speed commands rather than newer digital setpoint methods.
For closed-loop operation, the unit includes an additional encoder input for spindle feedback, which supplies position information for speed control and spindle orientation. An incremental encoder output mirrors real-time spindle position to external controls, while the integrated high-resolution INDRAMAT encoder improves low-speed velocity estimation. That signal arrangement can support synchronized axis behavior or alignment functions handled by other control hardware. Low-level signals are routed through the compact X4 9-pole terminal, which helps conserve panel space. The controller is supplied without an additional bleeder, so regenerated energy is handled by the internal circuitry alone, and applications with frequent heavy braking may require an external resistor bank.
