Product Description:
The RAC 2.2-200-380-APD-Z1 spindle drive controller is built by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and belongs to the RAC Spindle Drive Controllers series. It is an AC main spindle drive controller used to regulate torque and speed in high-performance spindle motors for numerically controlled machining lines. By converting incoming three-phase mains power into controlled motor output, it provides the closed-loop response needed for precision cutting, drilling, and grinding operations. The controller is intended for machine tools that need stable spindle behavior during acceleration, steady cutting, and rapid speed changes between machining steps.
This unit is designed for supply networks rated at 3 x AC 400 V, 50-60 Hz, so it can be connected directly to compatible industrial mains. A continuous phase current of 200 A is available to the spindle, which supports high-demand motor operation and affects conductor sizing. Speed reference is provided as a ±10 V analog signal, allowing straightforward connection to PLC or CNC outputs that use proportional voltage commands. For positioning cycles, the controller also accepts a 16-bit parallel digital position setpoint, which supports high-resolution indexing without serial communication. Heat generated by the switching section is removed by an internal blower, so separate cabinet airflow is not required.
An additional bleeder resistor dissipates regenerated energy during rapid deceleration, which helps prevent DC-bus overvoltage during braking events. Feedback flexibility is improved by the additional spindle feedback encoder input, which allows the controller to read a secondary position source when dual-loop accuracy is needed. The primary feedback channel uses a high-resolution INDRAMAT encoder to provide fine incremental data for surface-finish-critical processes. External control wiring lands on the X4 9-pole connector, which allows the control interface to be separated from the power cabling. This unit is version 2 in the series and is arranged for precise spindle control with added braking and feedback capability.
