Product Description:
The RAC 2.2-200-380-A0S-W1 is an AC main spindle drive controller built by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the RAC Spindle Drive Controllers series. As a dedicated spindle controller, it receives torque and speed commands from a CNC or PLC and modulates three-phase power to the motor for rapid acceleration and precise speed regulation in machining centers and similar automation cells. The unit combines power electronics and signal processing so the spindle can follow position loops calculated elsewhere while minimizing lag during tool changes. This arrangement lets the controller manage dynamic spindle behavior while the higher-level control handles overall machine coordination. It is suited to applications where fast speed changes and stable regulation are required during cutting and tool-handling sequences.
Thermal management is handled by a built-in blower that circulates cabinet air across the heat sinks, eliminating the need for external ducts. The power stage is rated for a line supply of 3 x AC 400 V, 50-60 Hz, and regenerative energy returns to the DC bus because the unit is supplied without an additional bleeder. Parameterization and diagnostics are handled through the RS-232-C serial interface, allowing direct connection to a service computer. Control wiring terminates on the 9-pole X4 connector, which groups enable inputs, fault outputs, and reference signals in one location. The integrated airflow path keeps heat concentrated at the cooling surfaces and supports installation in enclosed cabinet layouts.
This controller can deliver up to 200 A of phase current, allowing it to drive high-inertia spindle motors during rapid acceleration. Speed information is accepted as an analog ±10 V command, giving straightforward compatibility with conventional motion cards and supporting tight speed control when used with external feedback devices. The hardware is released as Version 2. It is supplied without an additional encoder input, so any encoder signal must return directly to the master controller. Because feedback bypasses the drive, the control system must process encoder signals outside the spindle controller.
