The RAC 2.2-150-460-DP0-W1 is an AC main spindle drive controller manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and part of the RAC Spindle Drive Controllers series. It governs high-speed machine-tool spindles by converting line power into regulated armature energy so motor torque follows digital setpoints. Within an automation cell, it links to CNC equipment and manages rapid speed changes during cutting cycles. This behavior supports milling, drilling, and tapping operations where spindle speed must remain stable as the load changes.

At the power stage, the controller accepts 3 × AC 400 V / 460 V supplies at 50 Hz with a ±15% tolerance, matching common plant mains. The output bridge can deliver a continuous 150 A to the spindle motor, so connected conductors and protective devices must support that load. Cooling is handled by an internal blower that directs airflow across the heat sink, and this airflow removes heat from the power section during sustained spindle demand. Because the design has no additional bleeder, regenerated energy returns to the DC link or upstream line components instead of being dissipated inside the controller. Speed references arrive through a digital 16-bit command, giving 65,536 discrete velocity points for smooth ramps and fine speed increments during contouring.

The signal interface is organized around the X4 25-pole terminal, which carries enable, status, and reference lines to the host controller. A dedicated spindle feedback encoder input allows a secondary sensor to be evaluated alongside the primary high-resolution encoder mounted on the motor. This arrangement helps the drive monitor spindle angle more closely during orientation moves and rigid tapping. It also supports stable response during tool changes and reversing cycles. The controller is version 2 and synchronizes both encoder counts through an internal phase-locked loop for closed-loop speed and position control.
