Product Description:
The RAC 2.2-150-460-D00-W1 is an AC main spindle drive controller produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and included in the RAC Spindle Drive Controllers series. Designed to govern high-power machine tool spindles, the unit regulates motor torque and speed during cutting, drilling, or grinding cycles while interfacing with CNC control systems. By converting three-phase mains power into controlled output for synchronous or induction spindle motors, the controller provides the closed-loop performance required for repeatable machining accuracy in industrial environments.
Its power stage accepts a line supply of 3 x AC 400 V, 50 Hz, ±15 % or 3 x AC 460 V, allowing integration on both European and North American plant grids. Under continuous duty, the inverter can deliver a spindle phase current of 150 A, a magnitude sized for heavy roughing passes without derating. Command data arrive on the parallel control bus, where a 16-bit parallel digital control word sets the target speed with fine resolution, and status feedback is returned for synchronous motion control. Power, control, and sensor conductors land on the X4 25-pole terminal strip, which keeps encoder, enable, and safety lines in a single keyed connection. Thermal energy generated by the IGBT bridge and reactor is removed by an internal blower. The built-in fan circulates cabinet air across heat sinks so no external coolant plumbing is required.
The controller is built as Series 2 and Version 2, with updated fault diagnostics and bus timing relative to earlier releases. For braking tasks, it relies on the standard internal resistor because it is supplied without an additional bleeder, so excess regenerative energy must stay within the permitted duty cycle. Axis position tracking is handled through the primary spindle encoder alone, and the unit ships without an additional encoder input, which simplifies wiring when only one feedback channel is needed.
