Product Description:
The RAC 2.2-150-380-API-Z1 is an AC main spindle drive controller produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and supplied within the RAC Spindle Drive Controllers series. It conditions three-phase mains power and modulates current to a machine-tool spindle while exchanging real-time speed commands with a supervisory CNC. By integrating current regulation, encoder handling, and energy dissipation in one housing, the unit maintains constant torque and stable spindle velocity during demanding industrial automation cycles.
At the input, the controller is wired for 3 x AC 400 V supplies operating at 50 to 60 Hz, which aligns with common plant mains. Its power stage is rated for a continuous spindle current of 150 A, allowing direct control of large synchronous or induction spindles. Heat generated by the switching elements is removed by an internal blower, so the unit can operate in an enclosed cabinet with proper airflow. During regenerative deceleration, excess energy is routed through an additional bleeder, which helps prevent DC-bus overvoltage. Speed references are accepted on an analog (+/- 10 V) channel, and all low-level control wiring is terminated on the X4 9-pole connector. The unit is series 2 and version 2.
For position control, the drive is optimized for high-resolution Indramat encoder feedback, enabling precise phase commutation across the full speed range. When a machine design requires redundant or specialized sensing, an additional encoder input is available so a secondary transducer can be evaluated at the same time as the primary spindle sensor. The built-in incremental encoder output mirrors position data to external measuring systems or synchronized auxiliary axes. These feedback and control interfaces support accurate start-stop cycles while helping the controller maintain stable operation during changing spindle loads.
