Product Description:
The PST6250.610-L thyristor power unit is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat as part of the PST Thyristor Power Units series. It gates current through paired thyristors to regulate energy delivered to welding transformers and other high-current loads in automated production cells. By controlling the conduction angle, the unit allows a PLC or fieldbus system to command precise heat input, making it a dedicated interface between low-level control logic and high-power machinery.
The control electronics run from 24 V DC, and at that voltage the triggering circuitry draws 1.0 A. When the main contact closes, an inrush of 1.5 A for 10 ms is required, which gives the supply fuse time to respond without nuisance trips. Once energized, the output can conduct a continuous 200 A of system current, making it suitable for medium-size resistance welders connected to transformers up to 250 kVA. To limit thermal stress, the unit is restricted to a maximum duty cycle of 50%. The housing has an IP20 rating and uses forced-air cooling, so it must be installed inside a filtered cabinet.
The integrated DeviceNet I/O bus exchanges setpoints and feedback with a cell controller, while time-based process sequences are stored in up to 256 resident programs that can be edited through the V24/RS232 service port. Overvoltage protection is provided by an MOV network across the mains terminals, and copper lugs up to 95 mm² clamp under the output screws to carry the full line current. Air moving across the heat sink allows the assembly to operate in ambient temperatures up to 55 °C without derating, provided cabinet airflow is maintained. Despite the high current capability, the unit weighs only 12.5 kg, which helps simplify panel installation and allows the chassis to be supported with standard DIN rail brackets.
