The PSI63C0.715-W2 medium-frequency inverter is built by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and belongs to the PSI Frequency Inverters series. The unit converts three-phase mains energy into regulated medium-frequency output appropriate for resistance welding controllers and similar automated joining equipment. By supplying controlled current pulses, it coordinates transformer primaries so weld quality stays repeatable across shifts. Within an automation cell, the inverter mounts inside a water-cooled cabinet and interfaces with networked timers, giving the welding station a compact, electronically synchronized power source.
Electrically, the inverter accepts a three-phase supply from 480 to 690 VAC, allowing installation on common high-voltage plant buses. Under nominal load, it draws 110 A from the mains, yet the internal power stage can momentarily reach 800 A of primary current so spot diameters remain consistent during thick-gauge joins. For short welding pulses, the secondary circuit can be driven up to 36 kA, a peak figure that sets the thermal and mechanical limits of connected transformers and electrodes. Because the design is water-cooled, heat produced by the power electronics is removed through an external coolant circuit. A programmable controller stores 256 individual schedules, each addressed over an EtherNet timer interface. Conductors entering the terminal block must be at least 35 mm² to help limit voltage drop.
Thermal management inside the enclosure is documented through specific loss figures. Base idle operation releases 100 W to the cabinet, while a full-power cycle raises cabinet dissipation to 140 W; both values are used when sizing cabinet cooling equipment against the inverter’s maximum cooling loss of 420 W. To achieve this extraction, the coolant must flow at 4 l/min, and the hydraulic path introduces only 0.1 bar of pressure drop, so standard plant manifolds are suitable. The output terminals accept conductors up to 50 mm², providing ample cross-section for high-current duty, and the internal sequencer still executes timing changes within 1 ms for uninterrupted production.
