The PSI6100.680-L1 medium-frequency inverter is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the PSI Frequency Inverters series. Serving as the power stage in induction heating lines, welding converters, and other process cells, it turns a fixed mains supply into a controlled high-frequency output that follows drive and PLC commands. By modulating current rather than using mechanical tap changers, the device supplies stable energy to work coils and transformers, enabling precise thermal profiles and fast cycle times in demanding automation environments.

Its power section switches at a clock frequency of 1 kHz, which supports voltage and current shaping on the secondary side. Control electronics draw 24 V DC, isolating logic functions from the power bus and allowing supervision during mains interruptions. The unit accepts a three-phase supply of 400 - 480 VAC, converting it into a nominal system current of 110 A that can rise to a maximum output current of 400 A for short heating pulses. A DeviceNet-based timer coordinates cycle start, dwell, and quench intervals with upstream controllers, while metal-oxide varistors provide MOV overvoltage protection against line surges. Air cooling removes up to 360 W of loss without external heat exchangers.

For placement inside electrical cabinets, the enclosure carries a IP20 degree of protection and is rated for operation in humidity class F environments. Continuous function is permitted at ambient temperatures up to 55 °C, provided that the incoming cooling air does not exceed 45 °C. Installation is allowed at elevations up to 2000 m without derating, and the commutation bridge can deliver a secondary current crest of 20 kA to match low-impedance work coils. Power lugs accommodate conductors up to 50 mm², while the control terminals accept conductors up to 35 mm² for auxiliary feeds and ground links.
