The PSI6100.356-L1 is a medium-frequency inverter manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat as part of the PSI Frequency Inverters series. It supplies controlled medium-frequency power for induction heating, brazing, and similar automation tasks, linking a three-phase supply to the work coil through its rectifier and inverter stages. Installed inside a machine cabinet, the unit forms the energy source for closed-loop thermal processes, allowing a supervisory controller to modulate output current in real time.

When connected to a plant network that provides 400–480 VAC, the inverter draws a nominal system current of 110 A and can deliver up to 400 A on its output bus for short-term heating surges. The switching bridge is driven at 1 kHz, a frequency that sets the resolution for output power modulation while keeping harmonic content within limits. Cabinet loss at maximum power is limited to 170 W, so only a small fraction of the processed energy is dissipated as heat inside the enclosure. Protection is rated at IP20, indicating that fingers and tools are guarded, but the unit must be installed in a sheltered panel. An integrated temperature-monitoring circuit continuously checks the power modules, and the built-in INTERBUS timer synchronizes firing sequences with external PLC events.

Thermal management relies on an air-cooled design that draws process air through the heat sink, and the inlet stream may reach 45 °C while the internal electronics remain stable as long as ambient temperature around the inverter does not exceed 55 °C. The unit maintains full rating up to 2000 m installation altitude, after which derating of the semiconductors is required. Secondary circuit protection accommodates fault currents as high as 20 kA, and the primary terminals accept conductors up to 50 mm² to minimize voltage drop at elevated loads. Storage is permitted between -25 °C and +70 °C, so the device can be shipped or warehoused without specialized climate control.
