Bosch Rexroth Indramat builds the KMS02.1B-A018-P-D7-ET-ENA-SD-NN-FW near-motor servo drive for decentralized positioning tasks in the KMS Electronic Drives series. Installed close to the controlled axis, this module converts rectified DC-link energy from a central supply into phase-modulated power for a synchronous motor. In plant automation, it enables compact motion nodes without long motor cables and helps reduce common-mode noise. Mounting the drive near the motor also shortens cable runs for power and feedback connections.

The unit relies on natural convection cooling and therefore generates minimal acoustic output during normal duty. Inside, a DC link of DC 750 V is buffered by 0.02 mF of capacitance to smooth regenerated energy. Multi-chip IGBT stages deliver a maximum output current of 17.7 A at 4 kHz switching, while momentary peaks up to 18 A support rapid acceleration. Output transitions are limited to 5.00 kV/µs from phase to phase to reduce motor insulation stress. Field wiring is protected by an enclosure rated IP65, so the drive can be mounted on moving axes exposed to dust or spray. Command data pass through the integrated Multi-Ethernet interface, and position feedback is accepted through an ACUROlink encoder channel. This feedback channel allows the drive to process motor position data directly at the axis. Rated input is 7.3 A from the feeder, and the bypass path tolerates 25 A. The drive uses the Basic performance level, design version 1, and no design option.

Thermal management is aided by a dissipation figure of only 50 W, helping cabinet-free installations stay within ambient limits. The sealed housing weighs 2.50 kg, allowing direct attachment to linear carriages without adding much load to guide bearings. Functional safety is provided through the integrated Safe Motion package, which is accessed through an M12 12-pin D-coded safety connector. Circuit interrupt capacity reaches 42,000 A rms, supporting installation on high-fault-level mains. The dedicated safety connection keeps the safety circuit separate from the main power and communication connections. The unit is in series 02.
