The IKS4142 is an encoder feedback cable produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the IKS Encoder Cables series. It serves as the interface between a motor-mounted encoder and the drive controller, carrying position signals and encoder power in industrial automation systems. The cable is engineered to maintain signal integrity during constant motion inside machine tools and material-handling equipment. Its flexible construction supports routing through moving assemblies where repeated bending occurs during normal machine operation.
This model contains 13 conductors arranged to separate power, signal, and control lines. The power group consists of four cores with a cross-sectional layout of 4 × 1.0 mm², allowing low-loss current delivery to the encoder electronics. Additional control lines use a 3 × 0.25 mm² arrangement, while three individually shielded control pairs carry differential signals. A braided overall shield surrounds the cores to block electromagnetic interference before it reaches the drive. Field termination is unnecessary because the factory-molded plug is an M23 17-pin socket keyed to Pol P. The polyurethane jacket withstands repetitive stress during drag-chain motion and has a rated service life of 5 million bending cycles. Despite the multicore layout, the cable has an outer diameter of only 9.7 mm, allowing compact routing through conduits, cable trays, and machine raceways.
The PUR jacket has a highly visible orange finish in RAL 2003 and resists cutting oils while remaining flexible at the permitted bend radii. For stationary installation, the cable can be bent to a minimum radius of 5 × D. In continuous-motion applications, the minimum bend radius increases to 7.5 × D to reduce conductor fatigue. The cable supports conductor temperatures up to +80 °C, allowing it to share enclosures with motors and drives that generate substantial heat. This temperature limit helps protect the conductor insulation from premature aging during operation. Proper bend-radius clearance also reduces mechanical strain where the cable enters connectors or transitions into moving cable carriers.
