The IKS4042 is an encoder extension cable produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and supplied under the IKS Encoder Cables series. It links motor-mounted position transducers to the drive controller, carrying incremental or absolute feedback signals together with auxiliary supply lines. By providing defined impedance and shielding, the assembly maintains signal integrity between a servo motor and the associated control hardware in automated machinery. The cable incorporates molded connectors at each end, enabling quick field replacement and minimizing downtime in modular production cells.
For stationary installation the minimum bending radius is 5xD, so the cable may be routed inside cabinets without conductor strain. During constant motion it must not be bent tighter than 7.5xD, allowing survival in robotic axes and drag chains. Its 8.8 mm outside diameter fits standard energy-carrier channels while still enclosing four twisted signal pairs and a power pair. Endurance is validated for 5,000,000 bending cycles. Insulation withstands up to 300 V control potential. The layout 4×(2×0.25 mm²)+2×0.5 mm² and resistances of 83 Ω/km and 39.5 Ω/km limit voltage drop along the run.
The outer jacket uses PUR (Adhesion-Free, Matte) compound that resists abrasion, cutting fluids, and sticking to adjacent cables. Conductors may reach 90 C without degrading insulation, supporting installations near heat sources. A keyed D-Sub 15-Pin (INS0760/C01) plug mates with the controller, and an M23 12-Pin (INS0713/C01) receptacle terminates the motor end. Crimp pins on the controller side and crimp sockets on the motor side maintain low contact resistance throughout service life. The 0.25 mm² control pairs handle differential encoder currents, and the orange RAL 2003 sheath improves visibility during maintenance.
