The IKS4038 is an encoder cable from Bosch Rexroth Indramat in the IKS Encoder Cables series. This cable links an encoder on a servo motor to the associated drive controller, transferring position and diagnostic signals while the machine is in motion. By maintaining signal integrity through double shielding and matched impedance, the assembly supports closed-loop motion tasks in packaging lines, gantries, and other automated stations where feedback accuracy is essential. Stable signal transmission also helps the control system respond cleanly to changing speed and position commands during repetitive axis movement and normal diagnostic monitoring.
The cable is rated for 5 million bending cycles, so it tolerates continuous movement on energy chains without early conductor fatigue. Classified as a Encoder Cable (Total Shield), it surrounds the signal pairs and the overall bundle with shielding that helps limit electromagnetic interference. Its 9.7 mm outer diameter keeps drag-chain fill ratios low while still accommodating the mixed-pair design of 4×(2×0.14) + 4×0.14 mm² control cores. A PUR jacket resists cutting oils and abrasion, and it is halogen-free to reduce harmful emissions during a fire. The bright orange RAL 2003 jacket makes the cable easier to trace in crowded cable trays and moving cable carriers. Operation is supported up to a 80 °C maximum conductor temperature, while a minimum static bend radius of 5 × D helps protect the insulation when the cable is secured inside control cabinets.
On the drive end, a D-sub 15-pin socket mates with standard Rexroth feedback modules, and the encoder side terminates in a M23 17-pin socket that locks securely against vibration. For dynamic routing, the cable may be flexed down to a 7.5 × D flexible bend radius without exceeding mechanical strain limits. Four power cores sized as 4×1.0 mm² supply conductors deliver auxiliary voltage to the sensor electronics, while the remaining logic pairs carry incremental or absolute data. This layout keeps power delivery separate from feedback transmission, which helps preserve signal quality during continuous motion and repeated cable travel.
