The filter is able to smooth out the voltage at the output of the motor. This ensures that a sinusoidal voltage is present at the motor output. Servo motors and variable frequency drives are operated on three-phase pulses that contain very sharp edges with high frequency. Even though the current is low, the high frequency interacts with the motor rotor and with the ground currents through motor bearings.
