The DM 4K 4101-D is a single-axis servo drive produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the DM Servo Drives series. Installed inside multi-axis control cabinets, the unit conditions DC bus energy and regulates phase currents for synchronous or asynchronous servomotors. In automated packaging, printing, or material-handling equipment, it forms the link between the motion controller and the motor. It generates the commanded torque profile while monitoring position feedback through STG or MTG encoders, allowing stable low-speed motion and repeatable axis response.

During operation, the drive draws 0.89 A from a 24 V standby supply that powers the logic and brake-release circuits even when the main link is disabled. The power stage is referenced to a regulated 670 VDC bus, with an alternative 715 VDC level when the cabinet DC link is not controlled. At 4 kHz, the inverter can deliver 6.6 Arms, while its continuous capability is 1.4 Arms. At 8 kHz, the continuous limit drops to 0.8 Arms because the higher switching rate increases thermal load in the output stage. Losses can reach 96.5 W, so the cabinet must provide airflow or a suitable heat sink, and the analog 16-bit setpoint interface passes velocity or torque commands from the motion controller.

Thermal margins change with switching speed and ambient temperature, so the current is reduced by 0.15 A/K between 45 °C and 55 °C when the pulse pattern remains at 4 kHz. If the carrier is raised to 8 kHz, the derating slope becomes 0.1 A/K. The drive body weighs 6.0 kg and occupies only 50 mm of rack width, allowing dense stacking on common heat sinks inside modular cabinets without using excessive panel space. Position data from the connected encoder are digitized internally with a single-turn resolution of 20 bits and a multi-turn counter of 32 bits, which supports absolute referencing over long travel ranges without re-homing. These feedback values help the controller maintain phase alignment and accurate commutation during slow, precise motion.
