By modulating the DC bus and feeding controlled current to connected motors, the unit regulates motor torque, position, and speed in assembly lines, packaging stations, and material-handling cells.
The controller operates on a DC bus whose nominal voltage is 700 V; this voltage is derived from the rectified three-phase supply and sets the baseline for inverter switching. At that bus voltage, the module can deliver a rated output of 100 A, allowing it to drive medium-power servo motors without saturation. During dynamic deceleration events, a bleeder transistor directs excess energy to an internal resistor that can continuously absorb 0.5 kW, preventing overvoltage trips. For short high-inertia stops, the bus can supply 3.3 kW at 400 V before external choppers are needed. The unit also uses a DC link damping element of 6 ohms, which limits peak currents when the brake chopper switches.
A coupling capacitance of 200 nF provides a low-impedance path for high-frequency common-mode currents, improving EMC compliance. During emergency braking, the internal network can dissipate up to 31 kWs of mechanical energy before thermal limits are reached, supporting repeated cycles in indexing or press applications.
