As a plug-in drive control module, it governs a single electric axis and relays motion commands and feedback between the power stage and higher-level automation systems. Within an industrial line, it handles position, speed, and torque loops so that servo or spindle motors follow program setpoints without external motion processors.

This section is configured for single-axis operation, meaning all command processing, encoder evaluation, and safety monitoring are dedicated to one motor channel. Command data reach the module over a fiber-optic ring that carries the SERCOS interface protocol; the optical medium reduces electromagnetic interference and allows deterministic cyclic telegrams at up to 16 MBaud. At only 103 mm in depth and 241 mm in height, the unit fits shallow control cabinets while still exposing a D-Sub 15 female socket for the second encoder.
