Installed alongside a matching power section, it forms a complete servo axis while keeping sensitive logic circuits separate from high-current components. In a modular drive assembly, this separation keeps signal-processing electronics away from the heat and electrical noise generated in the power stage. The board can be exchanged without disturbing motor cables or mains conductors.

As a communication node, the unit links to cell controllers over PROFIBUS, enabling deterministic cyclic and acyclic exchanges without additional gateways. Program parameters can be loaded through the front-mounted MultiMediaCard slot, which also stores machine-specific backups.
