Electrical power is supplied at +5 Vdc, and the controller draws up to 800 mA, so the cabinet supply must support that load. Central processing is handled by a 68EC020 microprocessor running at 25.0 MHz, giving the controller enough speed for motion blocks while limiting heat generation. Volatile program data are stored in 512 Kbyte of SRAM, and the onboard battery retains that memory during shutdowns. The module provides one SERCOS input and one SERCOS output for fiber-optic ring integration, and it supports deterministic axis triggers even though no reset or abort switches are installed. A single-digit seven-segment LED conveys status codes during startup and diagnostics. This arrangement combines front-panel status display with closed-loop communication to connected motion hardware.
Non-volatile user programs reside in an EPROM socket that accepts up to 1 Mbyte of memory, and complex arithmetic for spline calculations is accelerated by the 68882 math coprocessor. Two asynchronous channels using RS-232/RS-485/422 standards handle parameter download and diagnostic echo, while a pair of serial ports allows simultaneous HMI and drive service connections. Backup energy is provided by a 0.9 Ah lithium cell at 3 V, maintaining the register map and SRAM image when input power is lost.
