Product Description:
The ZK1090-6191-4050 is a flexible motor communication cable produced by Beckhoff within the ZK Motor Cables series. It is intended to connect servo drives, I/O modules, and sensors in automated lines, where reliable transmission of differential signals is required while the cable moves continuously in drag chains. The star-quad conductor arrangement helps reduce electromagnetic coupling between pairs, and the PUR outer jacket protects the cores from oil and abrasion common in machine tools and packaging equipment. This combination supports stable communication on moving machine sections that cycle repeatedly during normal operation.
With an effective length of 5.00 m, the assembly is suited for short cabinet-to-axis runs, keeping signal paths predictable and easy to route. Each conductor group has a cross-section of 1 x 4 x 0.14 mm² (AWG26) and is formed from 19 strands of 0.1 mm tinned copper to balance flexibility with current-carrying ability. The loop resistance reaches 250 Ω/km, which helps limit voltage drop over the installed distance and supports low-power control circuits. Mutual capacitance is held to 51 pF/m at 1 kHz, helping the cable sustain high-frequency square waves without excessive signal distortion. A propagation delay of 5.55 ns/m indicates the signal travel time per meter for distributed clocks in EtherCAT and other fast fieldbus protocols.
For applications that demand frequent acceleration up to 10 m/s², travel speeds of 15 m/s, and a service life approaching 20 million cycles, the molded terminations are an important part of the assembly. On the drive side, an industrial M12 plug, 4-pin, D-coded, male provides IP-rated coupling, while the controller end terminates in a shielded RJ45 plug, 8-pin, male for direct insertion into Ethernet ports. The conductor system is specified for continuous operating voltages of 30 V, yet it can withstand dielectric stresses up to 700 V. The PUR jacket and these electrical limits support use in tight cable chains that flex thousands of times per shift without compromising insulation integrity.
