Product Description:
Beckhoff's KS1418 belongs to the KS Digital Input Modules series and serves as a compact slice for bringing digital field signals into a PLC-based automation system. The module samples sensor states and forwards them to the controller, enabling deterministic machine sequencing. Its design follows a compact fieldbus-coupler concept with DIN-rail mounting, making it suitable for distributed control cabinets where input points must be added without taking much panel space.
The electrical layer is built for a nominal supply of 24 V DC, so sensors that share the same control voltage can be wired directly. Each of the eight channels is scanned through a hardware filter of 0.2 ms, which suppresses contact bounce without adding a noticeable delay. Input states are shifted into the controller as 8 input bits inside the process image, maintaining a one-to-one relationship with the module's eight terminals. Field wiring uses the 1-Wire technique, meaning a single conductor per point is sufficient because the common reference is carried through the internal power contacts. For cabinet installation, the housing carries an IP20 protection rating that prevents accidental finger contact with energized parts but is intended for operation inside an enclosure.
The polycarbonate body measures 12 mm in width, 100 mm in height, and 68 mm in depth, so the module occupies minimal rail space alongside other terminals. It snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail and connects to the supply bus through power contacts that can carry up to 10 A, allowing adjacent actuators to draw current without additional feeders. The wiring level is pluggable, which simplifies connection handling in dense terminal assemblies. The circuitry conforms to the EN 61131-2 Type 1/3 input profile. Reliable operation is specified up to 95% relative humidity, providing tolerance against condensation-free moisture during plant startup or shutdown.
