The KL9020-0000 is a Beckhoff terminal coupler that belongs to the KL Analog Input Modules series. It is intended to terminate or, when required, extend the K-bus chain inside a modular I/O station, allowing additional slices to be added without changing the primary controller. By providing data routing and power contacts in one housing, the module simplifies panel wiring in packaging, material-handling, and process equipment. Because it can sit at the end of a terminal string or between extension sections, it supports flexible station layouts where I/O has to be distributed across more than one rail segment.

Communication inside the station is carried over a 1 x RJ45 socket, which serves as the physical connection for the independent fieldbus link used by this coupler. Insulation requirements are met by a dielectric strength of 500 V, separating the power contacts from the electronic circuitry during surge or hi-pot testing. The module draws a typical 70 mA from the K-bus, and that value must be included in the downstream power budget. When extensions are used, cable segments may run up to 155 m, and each branch can still deliver up to 10 A through the internal power contacts to peripheral devices.

Up to 31 additional extension couplers can follow the KL9020-0000, provided each station break is kept within a maximum distance of 5 m. The power conductors are designed for a nominal 24 V DC, matching the sensor and actuator supplies commonly used in low-voltage machinery. Environmental limits include sustained operation at 95% RH without condensation, and the electronics carry an IP20 enclosure rating, so cabinet mounting is required. Mechanical installation is straightforward because the housing snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail, and its variable orientation helps optimize panel space while preserving airflow between terminal blocks.
