Product Description:
The KL6401-0020 is an I/O interface module produced by Beckhoff for the KL Analog Input Modules series. Occupying a single terminal slot on a DIN rail, the unit converts field sensor levels into a digital image that the central controller can read through the system’s K-bus. The module provides distributed acquisition of process variables without requiring extensive hardwired point cabling. This arrangement simplifies signal routing and allows diagnostic information to be accessed through the central control system in industrial automation cells.
Data exchange with the higher-level network uses the FTT-10/LPT transmission standard, and the module supports a data rate of 78 kbaud for cyclical communication in medium-sized node clusters. Internally, the terminal provides a process image of 36 bytes for inputs and the same capacity for outputs, allowing the application to map status, diagnostic, and parameter channels in a single K-bus cycle. Power for the electronics is supplied from the field at 24 VDC, while the backplane draws a typical current of 55 mA for its logic and communication circuits. These electrical values must be considered when sizing the power supply and segment coupler. The shared process image also allows the controller to exchange operating data without separate communication wiring for each mapped function.
The housing snaps onto a 35 mm mounting rail, and its variable installation position provides flexibility when arranging components inside a control cabinet. Despite its compact size, the terminal tolerates enhanced mechanical loads during operation. The housing has an IP20 protection rating, making it suitable for installation inside a closed control enclosure that protects it from moisture and small contaminants. Up to 62 network variables can be configured, providing address space for complex data sets across connected devices. The application layer provides one output channel for actuator control or status signaling alongside the input path. Its compact terminal format also allows the module to be placed near connected field devices, reducing the amount of point-to-point wiring required across a machine.
