The KL6041-0000 is a serial communication terminal produced by Beckhoff within the KL Analog Input Modules series. Designed for integration into a modular I/O environment, the module converts RS422 and RS485 field signals into data that the K-bus can process, allowing controllers to exchange serial information with drives, sensors, or barcode scanners placed on the factory floor. By occupying just 12 mm of rail width, it expands an automation node without rewiring power because the module draws its logic supply directly from the backplane.

Communication is based on the RS422/RS485 differential interface, so the terminal tolerates long cable runs and multi-drop bus arrangements. Inside, the TxD, RxD; Full/Half channel pair can be configured for full-duplex or half-duplex traffic, and the default startup format is 9600 bit/s with 8 data bits, no parity, and one stop bit. A hardware FIFO sized at 1024-byte RX, 128-byte TX smooths bursts from fast devices, while the module supports application rates up to 115200 bit/s. Electrical isolation between field and logic domains is rated at 500 V, which helps limit ground-loop currents. The process image occupies 22 bytes for receive data plus 2 bytes for status. Power is supplied solely through the K-bus, so no extra wiring is needed.

Mechanically, the terminal measures 12 × 100 × 68 mm and snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail in any orientation because the installation position is variable. The enclosure is molded from polycarbonate and carries the IP20 protection class, limiting its use to closed control cabinets. Field wiring sees a characteristic impedance of 120 Ω, which matches twisted-pair cabling used for differential signaling. The module draws 65 mA typ. from the K-bus for its logic circuits, leaving field power management to external supplies.
