Product Description:
The KL5151-0050 interface module from Beckhoff belongs to the KL Analog Input Modules series. It is an I/O terminal that counts pulses from incremental encoders and single-channel sensors, enabling precise position or speed acquisition in distributed industrial control systems. By translating field-level HTL signals into process data on the K-bus, the module supports real-time monitoring tasks on Beckhoff controllers and other automation nodes.
The unit offers one counter channel with a width of 1 x 32-bit binary, while two dedicated encoder channels provide a separate width of 2 x 32-bit binary for the A and B tracks. Quadrature signals are evaluated through a 4-fold evaluation decoder, so each edge contributes to position resolution. The permitted input rate reaches 100 kHz, and incoming transitions comply with the 24 V DC HTL logic level. Incremental encoders operated at 24 V DC can be connected on terminals A1, B1 and A2, B2, so the module supports up to two sensors for differential counting or direction detection. A single 24 V DC supply for the encoders is routed through the terminal, and all captured counts are mapped to the controller cycle without intermediate buffering.
Process images on the backplane occupy 4 x 16-bit data, 1 x 8-bit ctrl/status, which simplifies deterministic access over the K-bus. Electrical power for the circuitry is obtained exclusively via that bus, eliminating separate wiring. The housing meets IP20 ingress protection and resists radiated or conducted disturbances in accordance with EN 61000-6-2 / EN 61000-6-4. Resistance to vibration and shock follows EN 60068-2-6 / EN 60068-2-27, allowing cabinet mounting beside other terminals. This arrangement keeps external wiring limited to signal and sensor connections at the terminal.
