The KL5111-0011 is an incremental encoder interface produced by Beckhoff within the KL Analog Input Modules series. The module mounts on the K-bus rail to acquire position and speed data from HTL encoders and deliver it to a PLC in real time. By translating differential edge information into binary counts, the unit allows motion controllers to synchronize axes, measure lengths, or monitor conveyor speeds in compact machine assemblies.

The housing measures 12 x 100 x 68 mm, permitting dense I/O packing inside control cabinets. Internally, a quadrature decoder with 4-fold evaluation accepts A, B, and C tracks, letting each cycle contribute four counts to the 16-bit binary counter so that 65,536 discrete positions can be distinguished. The front-end comparator tolerates up to 15 V as a defined high and recognizes a low below 5 V. With a maximum input rate of 250 kHz, fast servo feedback signals are captured without aliasing, and the period-measurement block resolves each pulse to 200 ns for speed calculation.
