The KL5101 Bus Terminal is a single channel encoder interface designed for incremental encoders. It supports both differential RS422 and TTL signal types. The terminal operates with a 5 V DC encoder supply and integrates into automation systems using a standard K bus connection. It is built to handle high speed encoder signals and is optimized for precise position and timing evaluations.
This Beckhoff KL5101 bus terminal features a 16 bit binary counter with integrated quadrature decoding. It supports 1x, 2x and 4x evaluation modes that enables up to 4 million increments per second with 4 fold evaluation. The KL5101 terminal includes: a 16 bit latch and a second input G2 acts as a gate to disable the counter that halts counting when high. The terminal accepts encoder connections via A, B, C channels and their inverse inputs (A, A inv; B, B inv; C, C inv) using differential RS422. It includes a 5 V DC status input and a 24 V DC gate/latch input. Period duration measurement is possible with 200 ns resolution for precise timing applications. Encoder output current can reach up to 0.5 A. The KL series bus terminal does not require power contact current and relies solely on K bus consumption which typically draws 60 mA. Commands supported by the terminal include read, set and enable for flexible control integration.
