The Beckhoff KL5001-0016 is an SSI encoder interface module designed to integrate seamlessly with Beckhoff's control systems. The SSI encoder interface makes it easy for an SSI encoder and the control system to talk to each other, that guarantees accurate data transfer.

The KL5001-0016 has one encoder interface with D+, D-, Cl+, and Cl- lines for input and output. The encoder interface works with a 24 V DC power source that comes through power contacts. When it's not using an encoder, it usually uses 20 mA. The power use goes up to about 20 mA plus the load when it is linked to a load. The module has power contacts that connect to a 24 V DC encoder and allow the change of the data transfer rate up to 1 MHz. The normal transfer rate is 250 kHz. You can set the serial input to a range of up to 24 bits. The KL5001-0016 has both an input and an output for a difference signal (RS422). This makes sure that data communication is correct, and the K-bus, which allows communication to the control system, uses 25 mA of power.

The KL5001-0016 SSI encoder interface shows data as 32-bit input in the process picture and can also have an 8-bit control or status function if needed. The encoder is small and easy to set up because it only weighs about 60 grams.
