Product Description:
The KL4404 is a voltage input terminal from Beckhoff that belongs to the KL Analog Input Modules series. Installed on EtherCAT or Bus Terminal stations, the unit samples single-ended field signals and forwards the digital data to the controller through the backplane. By translating 0 to 10 V process levels into coded words, this module allows PLCs to monitor sensors, potentiometers, and other voltage-generating devices used in industrial automation loops.
Each of the four channels is electrically separate yet shares a common ground, and the module supports 4 simultaneous measurements. The incoming voltage span of 0...10 V is quantized with a 12 bit converter, so every step represents roughly 2.44 mV, which is adequate for general process control tasks. The digitized samples are packed as 4 × 16 bit words on the terminal bus, leaving headroom for status bits and sign extension. Accuracy is kept high because the overall transfer deviation is limited to less than ±0.1%, minimizing scaling errors between the sensor and the PLC memory map. Power for the internal electronics arrives through the power contacts, and they can conduct up to 10 A, enabling the terminal to sit anywhere on a densely populated rail without creating a bottleneck in the supply distribution.
Mechanical integration is straightforward: latch springs snap the housing onto a 35 mm DIN rail, and the IP20 enclosure protects the circuitry from fingers and settled dust inside a control cabinet. The lightweight, electrically insulating polycarbonate housing also helps meet agency fire and impact requirements. All signal leads follow a 2-wire topology, reference the 0 V power contact, and present an input impedance greater than 5 kΩ, which ensures that most voltage sources will not be unduly loaded when connected to the module.
