The KL4112 is a two-channel analog output terminal manufactured by Beckhoff for the KL Analog Output Modules series. The unit converts digital data words received through the Bus Terminal backplane into 0–20 mA process currents, allowing a PLC to control field devices without separate signal converters. Its two current channels can provide continuous reference signals to proportional valves, indicators, actuators, and other industrial equipment. The module mounts directly beside neighboring terminals on a DIN rail, where integrated contacts distribute field power and K-bus communication. This compact arrangement reduces point-to-point wiring inside the control cabinet while keeping both output channels within a single terminal housing.
Signal conversion uses a default resolution of 15 bits, providing 32,768 discrete levels across the configured output span. During each bus cycle, the interface receives 2 × 16 bits through the K-bus so that command values and associated control information can be transferred between the controller and terminal. The output range of 0 mA to 20 mA supports standard current-controlled devices used throughout industrial automation. Each connected load must have a resistance of less than 500 Ω to maintain the required output current without excessive voltage drop. A hardware watchdog places the outputs into a predetermined state if no valid bus cycle occurs within 100 ms, providing predictable behavior during a communication interruption. The terminal can operate at ambient temperatures from 0 °C to +55 °C, making it suitable for typical protected control cabinets without dedicated cooling.
The terminal clips onto a 35 mm mounting rail and provides two individually controlled output channels. Internal electronics receive power at 24 VDC through the terminal contacts, eliminating the need for a separate supply wire connected directly to the module. The IP20 housing protects against accidental contact with internal components but requires installation inside a suitable enclosure. The device can be stored at temperatures from -25 °C to +85 °C without damage when it is not operating. Shared power contacts allow the supply potential to continue through adjacent I/O terminals without separate jumpers. Field wiring terminates at the front connection points, keeping output conductors accessible while the module remains attached to the rail.
