Product Description:
Beckhoff’s KL4022 is an analog output terminal in the KL Analog Output Modules series. The terminal provides current interfaces that allow a controller to convert digital words into field-level signals for drives, control valves, or transmitters that accept a process-current setpoint. By connecting to the modular Bus Terminal system, the unit adds precise current generation to a node without external wiring blocks, supporting compact machine designs in industrial automation cells. Its KL-family design allows it to use the internal power distribution and fieldbus mapping conventions provided by the surrounding terminal assembly.
The mechanical footprint is restricted to a width of 15 mm, with a casing depth of 70 mm and a height of 100 mm, conserving cabinet space when several terminals are arranged side by side. A molded latch secures the housing to a standard 35 mm DIN rail, allowing tool-free installation during panel assembly. Internal electronics draw power from a 24 VDC field supply that also energizes the terminal’s backplane interface. The two channels can drive loads with a resistance below 500 Ω while maintaining rated accuracy. The single-ended topology simplifies wiring because the outputs share a common reference. Reliable operation is maintained at ambient temperatures from 0 °C to 55 °C.
Digital words arrive through the backplane as two independent 16-bit registers, corresponding to the module’s 2 output channels. The converter truncates each 16-bit word to its specified 12-bit resolution before updating the current loop. The resulting signal spans a calibrated range of 0 to 20 mA, allowing the application to send full-scale control signals to many industrial actuators without additional scaling. An enclosure rated at IP20 protects the circuitry against finger contact when the terminal is installed inside a cabinet. All components withstand nonoperating temperatures from -25 °C to 85 °C, allowing unpowered units to be stored under typical industrial warehouse conditions.
