Product Description:
The KL3458 analog input module is produced by Beckhoff and belongs to the KL Analog Input Modules series. As an I/O terminal for EtherCAT and Bus Terminal systems, it converts eight single-ended voltage signals into digital process data so that a PLC can monitor sensors and transmitters without separate interface cards. Mounting the module on the DIN rail reduces panel space and preserves the 24 V control wiring layout commonly used in decentralized automation. The terminal format also places analog acquisition directly beside neighboring I/O slices, which helps keep cabinet layouts compact.
It offers 8 input channels, so one terminal can capture multiple transducer voltages in a single slice. Each channel is digitized at 12-bit resolution, allowing the PLC to detect small changes in process variables. The raw data are sent on the fieldbus as 8 x 16-bit words, which simplifies scaling in the control program. Each input channel has an internal resistance of less than 85 Ω, so the module minimally loads low-impedance signal sources. The permissible common-mode potential between any channel and ground is 30 V maximum; exceeding that level can cause clipping or damage under fault conditions. Because the module uses single-ended voltage inputs, measured values share a common reference inside the terminal assembly.
The housing measures 12 mm × 100 mm × 68 mm, so eight analog points take very little width on the backplane. The module mounts directly on a 35 mm DIN rail, and its power contacts can conduct up to 10 A to downstream terminals while logic power is drawn from the K-Bus. It has an IP20 protection rating, so it is intended for enclosed cabinets where finger-safe access is required but sealing against dust or liquids is not expected. The reference ground is fixed at 0 V, surge events up to 30 VDC are tolerated, and an optional control and status area of 8 x 8 bits can be enabled for fast diagnostic flags without using additional process bytes.
