Product Description:
The KL3362 is a strain-gauge terminal manufactured by Beckhoff for the KL Analog Input Modules series. In an automation cell, it digitizes millivolt signals from load cells or force sensors so that a PLC can monitor tension, compression, or weight without auxiliary converters. Placing the measurement electronics directly on the DIN rail beside other I/O modules reduces wiring distance and helps preserve signal fidelity. This arrangement supports closed-loop control tasks such as press-force regulation, force monitoring, and gravimetric dosing. The compact terminal format also allows the measurement channels to be integrated into a distributed control system without requiring a separate signal-conditioning enclosure.
The terminal supports four-wire or six-wire bridge connections. The sense lines in a six-wire layout compensate for lead resistance, improving measurement stability when sensors require long cable runs. Module power is supplied through the K-bus, so a separate field supply does not need to be routed to the front of the terminal. Each channel provides a conversion depth of 24 bits, giving the controller fine measurement resolution when small load variations must be detected. With two inputs, the terminal can analyze paired sensors within a single housing, including sensors installed on dual-column presses. The signal path is optimized for a strain-gauge full bridge, eliminating the need for half-bridge completion resistors while preserving bridge symmetry between the sensor and the analog-to-digital converter.
The housing has an IP20 rating, making the terminal suitable for clean control cabinets where protection against finger contact is required but a sealed enclosure is unnecessary. It snaps onto a 35 mm mounting rail, allowing installation beside other bus terminals without additional brackets. The terminal permits a variable installation position, so the rail can be oriented vertically, horizontally, or flat within a shallow enclosure without affecting measurement accuracy. Its DIN-rail format supports dense I/O arrangements where available panel space is limited. Short signal paths between the sensor wiring and measurement electronics can help reduce exposure to electrical interference. The terminal can be positioned with related input and control modules to keep strain-gauge wiring separate from higher-power conductors inside the cabinet.
