Within the module, the bridge excitation rail delivers 5 V DC at up to 20 mA, which is adequate for typical sensor pairs without an external power source. Incoming differential voltages are digitized at a rate of 10 ms per conversion, and each sample is filtered around 50 Hz to reduce line-frequency noise commonly found in plant environments. The resultant word is resolved to 16-bit accuracy, giving 65,535 discrete steps across the measurable span. These electrical characteristics affect both the dynamic response and the smallest change in load that the controller can detect. This makes the terminal useful for batching scales or tension control where small deviations must be captured quickly.

Because the KL3351-0001 offers a 1-channel topology, the single sensor path is mapped into a cyclic process image as 2 × 16-bit words, with one word for the value and one for status. Internally, the signal path supports a full-bridge configuration, so half-bridge or quarter-bridge elements must be completed externally before connection. Module status, process data, and diagnostics are carried over the K-bus while drawing only 65 mA, and the assembly has an IP20 protection rating, meaning it must be mounted inside a control cabinet but does not require additional sealing.
