Product Description:
The KL3314/PL3 is an analog thermocouple input terminal manufactured by Beckhoff for the KL Analog Input Modules series. Installed on a DIN rail next to a fieldbus coupler, the module translates raw sensor voltages into temperature words that a controller can evaluate in real time. By combining signal conversion, reference compensation, and channel diagnostics in a compact enclosure, it removes the need for external transmitters in distributed temperature-control tasks. This integration reduces cabinet space and simplifies system setup on production lines.
Each of the four channels delivers process data with a width of 4 x 16 bits, providing the PLC with signed integers ready for scaling. Cold-junction compensation is internal, so ambient changes at the terminal strip are corrected automatically. Field wiring uses a 2-wire scheme that matches standard thermocouple pairs. The converter resolves temperature changes in steps of 0.1 °C/digit, which is suitable for tight PID loops. An enclosure rating of IP20 limits use to protected panels but allows high-density stacking. The terminal detects open circuits, can switch to direct millivolt measurement, and recognizes sensor families B, E, J, K, L, N, R, S, T, U, or raw mV without extra hardware.
The slice snaps onto a 35 mm EN 60715 rail and receives logic power and process synchronization via the K-Bus, avoiding separate supply terminals. There are 4 independently monitored inputs, and the default startup profile selects type K thermocouples, while other listed types can be activated through parameterization. An auxiliary channel transmits 4 x 8 bits of status, flagging limit violations or sensor faults to the host in parallel with the process image. Because the installation position is variable, builders can mount the terminal horizontally or vertically to align with cable routing while maintaining specified accuracy.
