The KL3314/PL3 is an analog thermocouple input terminal manufactured by Beckhoff for the KL Analog Input Modules series. Installed on a DIN rail next to a fieldbus coupler, the module translates raw sensor voltages into temperature words that a controller can evaluate in real time. By combining signal conversion, reference compensation, and channel diagnostics in a compact enclosure, it removes the need for external transmitters in distributed temperature-control tasks. Each of the four channels delivers process data with a width of 4 x 16 bits, providing the PLC with signed integers ready for scaling. Cold-junction compensation is internal, so ambient changes at the terminal strip are corrected automatically. Field wiring uses a 2-wire scheme that matches standard thermocouple pairs. The converter resolves temperature changes in steps of 0.1 °C/digit, which is suitable for tight PID loops.
