Product Description:
The KL3314-0024 is a four-channel thermocouple input terminal manufactured by Beckhoff for the KL Analog Input Modules series. In typical machine or process installations, it sits next to CPU and I/O terminals and translates sensor voltages into 16-bit process data that the PLC can read cyclically. By consolidating cold-junction compensation, linearization, and diagnostics inside the housing, the module eliminates separate temperature transmitters and simplifies cabinet wiring. This arrangement lets the control system receive temperature information directly from the terminal without added signal-conditioning hardware.
The channel wiring follows a 2-wire scheme, so each thermocouple pair lands directly on the spring terminals without reference conductors. Cold-junction compensation is handled through Internal measurement, which removes the need for an external reference block. With a factory default of type K scaling, the module immediately supports a common thermocouple format, and it can also be set for other thermocouple types or plain millivolt input. Measurement values travel over the backplane through the K-bus, and the process image contains signed 4 × 16 bits values for the four channels. That flexibility allows the same terminal to handle standard temperature sensing and other low-level voltage signals in mixed I/O systems.
The raw conversion granularity is 0.1 °C/digit, and the total system deviation remains within ±0.5 % FS, which is suitable for closed-loop thermal regulation. For mechanical integration, the housing clips onto a 35 mm mounting rail and carries an IP20 rating, so it is intended for protected control cabinets. Open-circuit recognition helps the controller distinguish a real process change from a broken sensor lead. The module also uses two's-complement formatting, which makes signed values easier to process in PLC logic. Its design supports variable installation positions while maintaining normal operation in cabinet-mounted assemblies.
