Product Description:
The KL3314 is an analog thermocouple input terminal produced by Beckhoff for the KL Analog Input Modules series. The unit samples low-level millivolt signals from temperature sensors and places the converted data on the system bus, allowing a PLC to monitor process temperatures in real time. Installed alongside other KL terminals, it serves as a compact temperature acquisition node inside an industrial automation cabinet. Its direct integration with the terminal system reduces the need for separate signal-conditioning equipment between the sensors and the controller.
It provides 4 inputs, each independently digitized with a resolution of 0.1 °C per digit, so small temperature changes are visible to the controller. The default conversion cycle of 250 ms determines how often each channel is updated; this rate suits slow to medium thermal processes where rapid oversampling is unnecessary. To maintain accuracy, internal cold-junction compensation accounts for the temperature at the terminal connection point, and the computed result is delivered as a 0.1 °C two’s-complement value. Channel data occupy 8 bytes in the fieldbus process image, simplifying mapping within PLC memory. The basic measuring error is limited to ±0.5% FS, which restricts the maximum deviation across the full measuring range. Galvanic separation rated at 500 V protects upstream logic from differences in ground potential. The terminal also supports direct millivolt measurement, extending its use beyond standard thermocouple applications.
For physical integration, the housing clips onto a 35 mm DIN rail and exposes eight terminal points for a 2-wire connection, reducing the amount of sensor cabling required. The internal circuitry monitors lead integrity, and open-circuit recognition immediately reports a fault if a sensor line is interrupted. Communication over the K-bus uses 4 × 16 bits, providing a structured data interface for compatible Beckhoff bus couplers and controllers. The enclosure has an IP20 protection rating, so the module must be installed inside a suitable cabinet that protects it from conductive dust, liquid spray, and accidental contact. Its narrow terminal-style housing allows multiple temperature channels to be installed without occupying the panel space required by larger standalone transmitters.
